And yes, the pilot has no idea what he was doing, veering way left. There was plenty of time to correct the problem or pin off. And the tow operator could have dumped the pressure to avoid this as well. Hellle89 July 26, 2017 That looks like a "lock-out", it what's happening if you don't stear your glider at 90 degrees in line with the towing-line! Then you will fall very fast to the ground. But ofc it's very important to se that your glider is inflated correctly before the car starts to drive. Kinthesky July 26, 2017 Classic Lock Out. His wing appeared to be working alright at take off from what I could tell from the video. His Instructor would have aborted sooner if the wing wasn't inflated correctly. Instructor tells him to use "Right Brake" but he either doesn't hear him, doesn't brake hard enough or he was just too busy shitting his pants to do anything useful. Rookie mistakes. The tow operator should have cut the tension on the tow line but was likely hoping he didn't have to do that for fear of damaging that line of expensive small planes below. Lots of blame to go around on this one. Too much of a cross wind to send up a rookie. Too many expensive potential obstacles too near the tow zone. The list goes on…oh…and BTW that wasn't technically "Freefall" once his wing aimed towards the grass while still under tow tension. That was an uncontrolled powered decent. Something that should be avoided at all times but especially at a hundred feet up. Not a good place to be when something doesn't go to plan. Good to hear that the pilot survived to tell the tale. "Annnnnnd….. Flair, flair, flair!!!!"
